In early 2014, JD African Safaris booked a plains-game hunt for me with Clint Mattheus of Clint’s Hunting Safaris in Port Elizabeth, SA. I was apprehensive for two reasons: I had never been to South Africa, and I was traveling alone. But not to worry-JD handled all the details. When I arrived at the Port Elizabeth airport in mid-October, about 2:00 pm, Clint was waiting for me. Two hours later, we were sighting in my firearms on Clint’s ranch. And we were hunting a half hour after that. Clint is not only an all-around nice guy, he has more hunting skill than anyone I have ever met (and I grew up in a family of hunters in Colorado and Wyoming). On that trip, I bagged an impala, lechwe, red hartebeest and eland.
I enjoyed the time with Clint so much that I returned with my childhood friend, Phil, this past October. Phil came away as I did considering Clint not just an excellent PH, but a close friend. Phil got an impressive lechwe and a double on warthog. I shot a gorgeous nyala and a zebra. This was the most enjoyable hunting trip that Phil and I have ever taken. My only problem now is paying for all the taxidermy. But that’s a nice problem to have.
Don’t hesitate to use JD African Safaris. JD is just like Clint; he’ll become your friend as well.

Wanting to book a safari in Africa, I searched the web and found JD African Safaris. I contacted him and he quickly started booking our plains game safari with Clint Mattheus of Clint Hunting Safaris in South Africa. I had a list of 7 animals and my fellow hunters list was 4 animals, all in 7 days. Eleven animals is quite an ambitious list for 7 days of hunting.
The camaraderie we experienced with Clint (PH), Etienne (tracker) and other hunters was quite fun. They waited on us the whole time we were there with great food. We ate kudu, warthog, sheep and chicken to name a few. Drinks were served to our liking. Our sleeping quarters were excellent.
Clint Mattheus, our PH, worked very hard to make sure we had a chance to collect all the animals on our list. We had a bit of walking and hunted 3 different farms. I harvested a kudu, gemsbok, blue wildebeest, zebra, impala, blesbok and a warthog and my partner got a kudu, blue wildebeest, impala and a warthog. Having completed out list of animals, Clint took us to Addo Elephant National Park on the last half of our 7th day.
All in all the hunts were a lot of effort but were quite rewarding and enjoyable. I never got tired of hunting morning and evening every day. I would recommend both these outfitters for leading your safari in South Africa.

I recently booked a South African plains game safari with JD Safari. Everything went extremely well and was just as described. Great camps and lots of game! JD was also able to assist in everything from getting the firearms through customs to the importing of the trophies. He is definitely knowledgeable about all aspects of African safaris. In fact I am currently working with JD Safari on a dangerous game hunt to Zimbabwe. I highly recommend JD Safari for your next hunt.
