About Plains Game Hunting
JD African Safaris offers plains game hunts in several different South African countries. Our plains game hunts are primarily offered in South Africa at our premier Thakadu lodge in Limpopo, or in the Sundays River Valley in the Eastern Cape. In addition to South African locations we offer plains game at remote camps, but normally this is in combination with a hunt for a dangerous game species. To find the right hunting opportunity for your needs we invite you to view our hunting packages!

Why should I choose a Plains Game Hunt
Plains game hunts are some of the most rewarding experiences a hunter can have. The hunter is presented with Africa’s flora and fauna species diversity “up close and personal” and each day brings a new sensory overload of sights sounds and smells. Since most of Africa’s hunting is ‘spot and stalk’ the hunter will be getting lots of exercise and fresh air in addition to the hunt.
What makes hunting plains game unique
The experience of hunting plains game in Africa is quite a contrast to most other hunting experiences. First, there are many differing species and you are likely to see numerous sizes and sub species of creatures you are and aren’t hunting. The experience of being this close to this many species is amazing in itself for hunters and observers alike. The experience of walk and stalk hunting is something many people just read about but in Africa we do it – it is not at all uncommon to see tracks and then follow them up to see the animal we want to see. The South African hospitality and comfortable lodge accommodations great the hunter after a day in the field with hot showers, cold drinks, and great food. It is very hard to beat. Lastly, the cost of a African plains game safari is quite competitive with (if not less than) many other hunts available worldwide. A 7-day plains game hunt can be purchased for considerably less than an Big Game hunt for a single species in North America.
